Jaipur. Dr Renu Swaroop, secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India said that Biotechnology Park and Biotechnology Incubation Centre will be opened in Rajasthan. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Biotechnology Department, Government of India and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of Rajasthan. She said this will provide an opportunity to Rajasthan to conduct research in the field of biotechnology and to provide employment to youth.
Dr Swaroop on Friday was addressing State Biotech Cohort Meeting, which was attended by vice chancellor, director and dean of all universities who are running biotechnology course, representatives from institutes conducting research in biotech and startups associated to it. She said complete support and help on behalf of Government of India will be extended to promote biotechnology in Rajasthan. Setting up of Biotechnology Park and Incubation Centre will be done with the support of government company Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
She said utility of biotechnology is increasing in every field of today’s life including health, agriculture and agriculture production, industry, edible food etc. In such situation there is the need to promote biotechnology. She said encouraging biotechnology will give pace to the industrial development and research.
Smt Mugdha Sinha, Secretary, DST said that assistance required in bio-information, biomedical engineering and nano medicine etc will be encouraged in the State. She said recently the State Government had launched Nirogi Rajasthan (Healthy Rajasthan) and all possible assistance through bio informatics will be provided to strengthen it. Eco system and startup in biotechnology will be improved in the State with the help from Government of India.
She said that efforts will be made to get recognition to biotechnology science graduates in recruitment examination conducted by Rajasthan Public Service Commission to encourage scientists and youth associated with biotechnology, so that these youth get better employment opportunities. Science and biotechnology startup will be reverse pitched in the coming months and funding will be provided to these startups through BIRAC.
DST secretary said that industrialization can be brought only through science-based manufacturing and science-based research is very important in industrial development. Therefore, to promote biotechnology it has been decided to organise a meeting every month of the institutions and experts associated with it.
Along with all possible efforts will be made to get their problems associated with biotechnology resolved immediately. Officers of Biotechnology, Government of India and DST were present on this occasion.
